Recently I wrote about my endless list of draft posts. One of the reasons is that it takes me quite bit of time to wrap my head around exactly what I want to say.
However, AI could help with this, right?
So I’ve tried it:
“Dear Claude, I want to write a quick post in the style of justaboveaverage.blog
It’s about the most of the benefits that AI will bring will be questioning baerocracy and the time of middle management spends on it, leading to thinner organisations in middle management rather than doers.
T-shapeness of people. such as a great software engineers will become decent product managers as well as LLM with curious minds in hands will speed people up massively.
Diligent curious admin staff will be able to configure CRM better and support different areas as the will be able to learn much quicker about all operational aspects just from generic LLM and then specificity from SMEs.”
And I got a blog post back.
The premise was right, the words used as well. It read well, although I had to ask to take down the LinkedIn-ess down a notch.
But it wasn’t what I wanted to say. It didn’t read how I would explain it. What it was missing was any connection to how I got to some of the opinions. The years of living, learning, working. Phrases it used weren’t my phrases. Some of the words weren’t words I would use.
If someone would ask me to explain anything in any of my posts, I can somehow try to remember what point in life I was at that I was thinking that or how I got there.
That doesn’t exists in the AI text.
And I don’t know what that is. The fact that I want to post things I personally write, because it is my understanding of things and my way of expressing myself. I can stand behind it and change my opinion.
As I’m writing this I realise that it’s not uncommon. I don’t think people who do art as a hobby would want to get AI generated picture of “Lighthouse on an Irish coast in a middle of the storm. Yamato-e style.” and called it a day. “Look what I made, good isn’t it?”.
When I started to write these posts I was self-conscious about poor grammar, odd phrasing or just bit un-english way of expressing something, so I would use Grammarly or similar tool to take the edge off the text. Now I don’t do that. Let’s leave the oddities lay where they are. (I’m risking with the lay immediately).
I want this text to express what I believe at the point of writing. For it to be able to go trough potential readers scrutiny. “Why have you phrased it that way, do you really think that?” Oh, no. AI just phrased it that way and yes it’s a bit weird and it’s not really how I think about it.
The question for me, is why I have though it would be an option to get AI to write a post based on a few paragraphs. That will take a bit more pondering.
